The carob tree is a member of the pea family that can grow to a height of 20 metres and has tough, dark green leaves. The tree grows naturally in dry, rocky regions of the Mediterranean basin and it flowers in the autumn between September and November, producing a large number of very small flowers, grouped into spirals.

Carob is a fruit with a long pod, which is green while growing and dark brown once ripe. The pulp of the pod is toasted and ground to produce carob flour, which has long been part of the Mediterranean diet.

Carob is rich in anti-oxidants and it is a source of vitamins A, B1 and B2, magnesium and calcium. It contains naturally occurring sugars but it is a food with a low calorie content owing to the small amount of fat and the large quantity of natural fibre. Carob flour is frequently used these days in a range of recipes as a healthy option, given that it only contains 38 calories per soup spoon.

The products should be stored in a cool, dry place.

Carob World products have an expiry period of 12 months, provided the storage conditions are adhered to.

Carob World products do not contain gluten.

All Carob World products have a high fibre content. They also have a very low salt content.

All the Mediterranean Temptations bars and the spread with milk and almonds are sources of calcium and potassium.
